When it comes to achieving our goals, often staying motivated is the key. It can often be challenging to stay motivated to meet specific goals because of the need to stick with them long-term. With the everyday needs of being a mom of 7 and working full time, we all can easily fall into the habit of pushing our goals on the back burner or giving up on them entirely over time. It’s no surprise that nowadays, so many of us want to see the success or the results of the goals we set rather quickly, but depending on the goals you put, it is not always a realistic way to look at things.
As rewarding as being a mom is and working full time, mountain climbing is still a big goal for me to achieve for myself. It not only proves that you can do anything you set your mind to, yet it helps me show my kids how important their goals can be in life and use them as their motivation to keep going. I feel it’s essential also to hold yourself accountable and have plans for yourself. Therefore, if you also want to use your goals to motivate you, I would love to share how I do this and how you can too.
Break Down Your Goal
Nowadays, we live in a world of instant gratification. We prefer to see quick, practical, and actionable results rapidly. Therefore, if your goal is too large, well, then your motivation will move towards a standstill if you don’t break it down into smaller pieces of the larger plan. One of the easiest and most successful ways to stay motivated towards your goal is to break it down into smaller goals. Remember when I said earlier, I was a “box checker” this is how I do it. No one can eat an entire cake or pie in one sitting or bite; it has to be broken down into smaller bites to be consumed. This is how I feel all goals, whether large or small, should be approached. Whether it’s my next climb, work, or my kids, every goal I make, I plan it and put a to-do action list to it.
Visualize The Success Of The Goal
Surrounding many mindset techniques and psychology, one factor that sets people up for a better trajectory of their goals is visualizing it. As we envision the outcome of the goals we set for ourselves, we begin to see the possibility of achieving them. When we imagine as part of our motivation process, we become further motivated towards that goal and more eagerly prepared to pursue our aspirations. Keep in mind this is not a think it and believe it’s the time of mindset but rather a performance technique that helps us stay further motivated toward achieving our goal. I often do this when I am climbing because the visualization of reaching the summit may be challenging, but it still drives my adrenaline to go there, even if it takes longer than I expected.
Be Consistent Towards Your Goals
Let’s be truthful here; breaking down your goals and being consistent towards them are two different attributes that can help or hinder your motivation. While breaking down your goals and visualizing them are essential to staying motivated towards your goals, you also need to be consistent with your tasks. Consistency is vital in so many areas of our lives. It creates habits, both good and bad, that can become an ingrained part of our daily lives. So be consistent with your tasks and to-dos towards your goals. Also, make sure you are creating good habits around your goals and tweaking those habits regularly to keep you motivated towards your goal. For example, if you take 10 minutes a day to journal about and reflect on what you have accomplished for your purposes or plan your day around what needs to be done towards achieving them.
Remember Why You Started
A significant component to keep you motivated towards your goals is to remember why you started. We all have a reason for starting any goal, but if you want to stay motivated, you may have to revisit it on occasion. There are times when it just seems impossible to cross that finish line, but there is a reason you started in the first place. Every time you feel like giving up, remember the reason for which you started. Keep telling yourself you didn’t come this far only to come this far. For me, I have often reminded myself that there is so much more to all of this thing called life than the day-to-day routines. Even if I feel like giving up in the middle of a climb, I have to remind myself I am strong and can do this.
Staying motivated requires so many components to keep you going, and frankly, sometimes life gets in the way. It doesn’t mean you have to throw away your goals or dreams because of one hiccup. It also means you don’t have to suffer from a lack of motivation to hinder you towards goal completion. If you need to get more steam in your engine and increase your motivation, look back at your goals, how you can visualize them, and break them down consistently to see success.
